Fetty Wap, OMI, Charlie Puth, Silentó and Bryson Tiller are all finalists for Top New Artist at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.

Fetty Wap blasted onto Billboard’s charts in 2015 with three consecutive career-opening top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 (“Trap Queen,” “My Way” and “679”), making him just the third hip-hop act to earn that triple honor since 1990 (joining Chingy and M.C. Hammer). Fetty Wap’s self-titled debut album bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent its first six months lodged in the list’s top 40.

International pop star OMI is best known for his hit “Cheerleader.” After a clever reworking of the track by DJ Felix Jaehn, the song was infused with a tropical house sound and went on to become a global phenomenon. In the U.S., “Cheerleader” spent six weeks in the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and was officially named Billboard’s #1 Song of the Summer for 2015.
OMI is a finalist for two awards this year: Top Selling Song (“Cheerleader”) and Top New Artist.
Charlie Puth made his Billboard Hot 100 bow in 2015 as the featured vocalist on Wiz Khalifa’s 12-week No. 1 smash “See You Again.” He followed with two more top 25 hits: “Marvin Gaye,” ft. Meghan Trainor, and “One Call Away,” both from his top 10 Billboard 200 debut album, Nine Track Mind.
Charlie is a finalist for for six awards: Top Hot 100 Song (“See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa), Top Radio Song (“See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa), Top Rap Song (“See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa), Top Selling Song (“See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa), Top Streaming Song (Video) (“See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa) and Top New Artist.
Silentó broke out in 2015 with his single “Watch Me.” Over the course of one week, the single racked up over two-and-a-half million U.S. streams. The spike sent it to number 33 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The following week, the song crossed into the Hot 100 chart at number 86. “Watch Me” peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart during July 2015.
First time finalist Silentó is a contender for five awards: Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song, Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Streaming Song (Video).
Bryson Tiller, a contemporary R&B songwriter and singer, is a self-termed “trap soul” artist who also raps from Louisville, Kentucky. T R A P S O U L, his debut album, was released in October 2015 and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the R&B Albums chart. Bryson also had three songs peak in the top 10 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. His track “Don’t” even reached the No. 1 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
